Police closed the area north and east of Devils Glen Road and 53rd Avenue after an armed man reportedly confronted officers.
Police were called to Ridge Circle and Joshua Street at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 after someone reported a disturbance at a home in the 5500 block of Joshua Street.
When they arrived, officers were reportedly confronted by a man armed with a gun. The man was the only person inside the home.
A neighbor said the man had several personal challenges and that he had indicated recently he was despondent.
Police then blocked off access from 53rd Street to the Springs at Bettendorf apartments. Vehicles were not allowed on 53rd Street east of Devils Glen Road; and Devils Glen Road was also blocked north of 53rd Street.
The standoff ended just after 6 p.m. Traffic was still congested but streets were reopened by about 6:15.
Bettendorf Police Chief Phil Redington said no arrest was made as a result of the activity at the house.
