Bettendorf Woman Sentenced to 4 Months’ Home Confinement for Extortion | Crime
BETTENDORF, Iowa--The Bettendorf woman who tried to extort the company that airs 19 Kids and Counting, was sentenced to house arrest by a federal judge on Thursday.
On December 6, Theresa Kay Hunt was sentenced to time served for attempted extortion. Chief United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also sentenced Hunt to 1 year supervised release including four months’ home confinement.
In July 2012, Hunt pleaded guilty to one count of extortion. Earlier this year Hunt threatened to release what she claimed were damaging, intimate photos of a “19 Kids and Counting” cast member with a much older man if Discovery didn’t pay her $10,000.
As part of her sentence, Hunt is not allowed to have contact with the victims.
